Budget

After students determine they have
enough information to develop a budget, they will create the
spreadsheet to calculate costs.
|
- Teach the concept of budgeting. Create sample
budgets.
|
- Mini Lesson on creating a spreadsheet in
ClarisWorks.
|
- Identify terms i.e. cells, rows, columns, labels,
values and formulas.
|
- Add and organize information in a spreadsheet.
|
- Create formulas for adding values in cells.
|
- In small groups of 4, students will create a budget
for the class aquarium.

Assessment:
- solve real-world problems
involving number operations;
- select and use operations to
create the budget (e.g. multiplication as the inverse
of division);
- able to estimate a reasonable
result for the budget;
- choose appropriate computational
procedures and tools (e.g., calculators, pencil and
paper, mental computation, estimation) to solve
problems.
