Jim Adams
Director
Customer Service Operations Support
April 1997
How long have you known Richard and in what capacity?
I have known Rich for approximately one year. We work together daily in
a cross functional team environment managing the resources of an outsource
vendor. Rich performs a support role to me and together we are a support
team to another department.
What are Richard's principal strengths?
Rich possesses the ability to asses the needs of a given task or project
and break it don to individual, executable pieces without losing sight
of the larger true objectives. He has also proven himself adept at reading
the team dynamics and political climate, then adjusting his approach to
guide the team towards the collective goals. He demonstrates the talent
of applying previous, and seemingly unrelated experiences, to his responsibilities
of vendor project management.
In what areas can Richard improve?
Though Rich does a good job of leading by example, he could improve his
ability to take command of a situation. I believe this stems from an average
level of self confidence and a personality style that is more subtle in
approach. His ability to command authority in a given situation will come
from experience.
Compared to others with similar responsibilities in your organization...
Compared to others in similar roles, Rich rates as exceptional. He is willing
to attend to the finest detail, takes action beyond his area of responsibility,
is attentive to the needs of each individual personality and has a professionalism
that is well respected by senior management.
Please comment on Richard's:
Degree of self-confidence
Rich displays an average level of self-confidence when compared to his
high level of skill. He appears comfortable with all levels of management
(as observed through Vice Presidential levels) at both vendor site and
within our company.
Interpersonal/teamwork skills
Rich has displayed superior interpersonal skills welcoming new team members
and politely assigning responsibilities when and where appropriate. His
role as Project Managerî is one of heavy responsibility but little
true authority.
Initiative and drive
Initiative and drive appear to be fundamental to his personality makeup
but are well tempered by the limitations of his environment.
Demonstrated leadership/managerial abilities
As previously stated, Rich is a natural at leading by example and motivating
a team when given the goals for a team or project. His excellent project
management skills are used daily and the core responsibility of his current
position.
Potential for senior-level management
Rich has the potential to grow into a productive manager. I see many of
the skills that I possessed as an analyst in Rich and feel that he can
rapidly advance his career growth through effective mentor relationships
and advanced education.
