Kevin L. Poore
Senior Manager, Back Office
April 1997
How long have you known Richard and in what capacity?
I have known Rich for approximately one year, primarily in a business environment
although we have socialized on a few occasions. We interact at our place
of employment multiple times over the course of an average work day and
we have worked together on many projects in varied circumstance over the
course of that year.
What are Richard's principal strengths?
Rich has many strengths, and these strengths are easily attributed to intelligence,
talent, and hard work that he brings to the job each day. In selecting
the areas in which he excels, I would say that his organizational and interpersonal
skills are the strongest that I have observed in my 16 years of Business
and Systems work. He has continually displayed the ability to take disparate
parties in a project and turn them into a team. I have observed him making
proper and appropriate decisions while facing great pressure.
In what areas can Richard improve?
The area in which I have seen the most improvement in Richard over the
course of the last year is in his business and technical writing. His work
lately has been accurate, clean and precise. Additional work in this area
will bring this ability to his already high standards.
Compared to others with similar responsibilities in your organization...
Without a close second I would say that Rich is the premier Project Manager
in our organization and regretfully I must include myself in that pack.
Rich has taken projects from inception and completed them on time and within
guidelines. He has taken over failing projects and brought them to fruition.
And has done so with a sense of humor, a sense of team, and a sense of
purpose. I honestly believe that any organization would, or should be,
willing to have him. He has displayed great insight into the issues of
business and people management, and shown a deft touch in resolving problems.
Please comment on Richard's:
Degree of self-confidence
During the course of working together Richard has displayed a high degree
of self-confidence and is willing to make decisions when called upon to
do so. But, he has never displayed an arrogant or condescending attitude
and treated people internal and external to our company with decency and
an air of fairness.
Interpersonal/teamwork skills
Rich's greatest attributes are his interpersonal and teamwork skills. He
has consistently proven himself to be able to build a consensus among divergent
and sometimes non-communicative members of a project and do so through
the use of his skills as a communicator and a leader.
Initiative and drive
Rich has stepped up to the plate for our company in many and varied situations
and through tireless efforts turned dross into gold. He has displayed the
drive it takes to complete multi-million dollar projects on time and the
initiative to enjoy doing so.
Demonstrated leadership/managerial abilities
He has proven himself a leader to employees at DIRECTV and displayed strong
management skills in doing so.
Potential for senior-level management
If he isn't running his own incredibly successful business (which I fully
expect) in the next 5-8 years I am certain he will be in line for a Senior-Level
manager position.
Your overall impression
Richard Shin is an OUTSTANDING CANDIDATE for anything that he sets his
mind to do. Rich is an intelligent, resourceful, and upstanding person.
