During which period of time have you had the most
frequent contact with the applicant?
From April 1991 to April 1992 as a Co-Worker.
From April 1992 to April 1994 as his Manager.
Distinctive Strengths and Special Talents:
Richard is especially strong when it comes to coordinating and organizing
work efforts. His demonstration of these skills as a Programmer led to
a promotion to Systems Analyst where he has been highly successful in leading
small to medium sized projects. Richard is also a highly creative individual
and he is able to apply this talent to many areas of his work. The solutions
which he proposes in the resolution of business problems are indicative
of his ability to "think outside the box". He is open to new ideas and
concepts and is adept at applying them to the same old situations.
Leadership abilities
I believe Richard has the basic skill set required in a managerial or leadership
position. He has the ability to see the big picture, plan, coordinate activities,
organize tasks and people. As stated above, these capabilities have contributed
to his success as an "emerging" project lead. Richard also works well in
a group and is a motivating influence to the project team. These interpersonal
skills are fundamental in a leadership role.
In regards to others with similar responsibilities
In comparison to other System Analysts in the organization, I would rate
Richard in the top 10%. He frequently goes above and beyond in his assigned
work, takes on voluntary assignments and is active in company events and
activities. His participation in all of this has resulted in a well rounded
analyst, improvement of his knowledge of the overall company and establishment
of a solid network which includes staff at many levels.
Comments
Leadership
-
Interpersonal skills are one of Richard's greatest strengths. He functions
well within a team both in lead and non-leadership roles. Richard is very
open to sharing his thoughts and ideas in a group setting. He is able to
express disagreement when he feels strongly about a point but then accept
and support the group consensus.
-
Richard has always brought a great deal of enthusiasm to his work which
is a real asset in building team spirit and cooperation.
Analytical and Organizational Skills
-
Richard has excellent analytical capabilities and does a good job of organizing
the results both verbally and in writing. He is able to drill down to the
details but also keep the big picture in mind. His documentation or requirements
and detailed specifications are clear, concise and well organized
Self-Confidence
-
Although self-confidence is not a weakness for Richard, it is one area
in which he could use some development. He is frequently capable of much
more than he'll give himself credit for and discovers this in working through
the process. To some degree this level of confidence is related to his
experience level and will develop naturally with time.

Richard has developed a solid background in information systems for managed
care which, I believe, will continue to experience growth in job opportunities
over the next several years. The business experience Richard has gained
at his current company coupled with his technical talents make him a prime
candidate for advancement with any team.
